Scholarship Impact

SHAN was the very reason I completed my degree. They helped me with the financial assistance I needed to finish my last semester in college.

I began working with other survivors and I wanted something tangible that I could say “I did it”. I wanted something more than my lived experience. Now I have both.

I didn’t do it for me- but for every woman I have the privilege of serving and mentoring to let them know they can do it too. This degree is “For Freedom”. Thank you to the team at SHAN for making this possible.
— Ashley C., 2022 SFS awardee. Graduated 2022 with a degree in Collaborative Health and Human Services with nonprofit management and social work from California State University at Monterrey Bay
The Strategies for Success Scholarship has made a meaningful difference on my academic journey through Physician Assistant school.

As a mother raising a child on the big island of Hawaii, this support not only strengthened my academic performance but reaffirmed my commitment to giving back to the community as a compassionate, competent future clinician.
— YiZheng L., 2024-25 scholarship recipient. Completed a Physicians Assistant program and is continuing on to Medical School

The renewal [scholarship] is applied to my masters program. The previous scholarships awarded by SHAN helped me get my associates degree and my bachelors degree!

I am EXTREMELY grateful. My lived experience has gotten me pretty far and now I can’t wait to see how much further I’ll go with a college degree to back that up.

2024 Impact

SHAN awarded a total of over $21,487 to 11 survivors in support of their pursuit of higher education. They are studying across the country including Idaho, Washington State, Texas, Florida, and Hawaii! Two awardees graduated with their bachelor’s degrees.

Dream Big | We look forward to celebrating graduation for several of our renewal applicants! Over the last year we saw applications from Texas, Florida, and other states across the US. We consistently have to turn away applicants and gift less than a survivor’s requested amount due to funding constraints. Will you join us and send more survivors through school in 2025?
