How do I host a successful event?

  1. Consider your interests and skills

  2. Look at your network

  3. Brainstorm ways to connect the two

  4. Work with SHAN to coordinate logistics

  5. Host a great event!

  6. If needed, reconnect with SHAN for any follow up

Below is a helpful guide to further develop your event idea:

Past Events

Below are just a few of our favorite events from the last few years. We hope they spark inspiration for how you might connect your community with the cause.

New Life Gahanna’s women’s ministry hosted an annual paint night. The event gathered people who wanted to learn more about the cause through a mini training and also provided opportunities for local non-profit partners to host a booth with more ways to get involved or invest. Participants left with a completed painting!

SHAN Advocate Leanne leveraged her interest in conscious consumerism by hosting a clothing swap. For several weeks before the event community members could donate gently used articles of clothing. Participants paid an entry fee to fill bags with donated goodies, with proceeds going to SHAN. Remaining items were donated through SHAN’s partner agencies that serve victims of human trafficking.

SHAN Advocate Heather joined a connection to a local canoe livery with a family-friendly activity to raise funds for SHAN. Canoe for a Cause offered participants a relaxing summer evening on the water in addition to making a meaningful contribution to the cause.

Small Biz Cares hosted a tailgate party at Grove City Brewing Company during an OSU football game. Appetizers and games like corn hole added to the festivities. Funds raised invested in SHAN’s scholarships for survivors.

Tailgate for Charity

Peace by Piece featured an art gallery by a CCAD student. She invited participants to engage with art as they reflected on how they might engage with the cause in meaningful ways.
