Responding Holistically.

We believe in responding to human trafficking holistically. We recognize the importance of both micro and macro level responses to tackling human trafficking. We act as a resource to organizations by advocating for policy and partners so that those impacted by human trafficking have access to the best community resources.

From our long-standing bird’s eye view of the cause She Has A Name is able to understand both the vastness of necessary resources and the complexity of individual organizations within central Ohio’s Anti-Human Trafficking ecosystem. We use that expertise to advocate at a legislative level for fair and just laws, and at a community level to connect community resources with organization’s needs. We’re constantly asking, “What do you need? How can we make that happen?”

Legislative Advocacy

Seeking justice for those impacted by human trafficking starts with just laws. These equip law enforcement with the tools necessary to recognize cases of human trafficking as well as serve appropriate justice for perpetrators. She Has A Name testifies as an expert witness within the Ohio House and Senate to increase understanding around this complex issue.

Connecting Resources

Over the last 10 years we have built a foundation of trust and friendship among a variety of businesses, organizations, and individuals who are responding to human trafficking in creative ways. We leverage this social capital to connect resources with needs with a goal of strengthening and streamlining local efforts in response to human trafficking.

2022 Impact

Courtney shared about SHAN’s mission and programs during a City Council meeting (remarks start at 9:29) as SHAN was mentioned in a City of Columbus resolution recognizing January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month. SHAN joined the Ohio Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Initiative Data & Research and Demand Reduction Subcommittees to connect with state-wide agencies in creating a response to human trafficking. Courtney and SHAN advocate Kate joined SB 183 advocacy day with 5 Ohio coalitions at the state house.

We continued our connective efforts in the following ways:

  • 312 hygiene items were gathered and distributed to partner agencies

  • 19 partners participated in the Fair & Free workshop

  • SHAN equipped Sanctuary Night volunteers through their June 6th volunteer training

Dream Big | Equip survivors to provide legislative testimony; educate elected officials on how to augment justice measures for victims and perpetrators of human trafficking.
